About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled metallurgist to join our Magnesium R&D team in Swinton. This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative materials that help shape the future of lightweight engineering.
The role requires a strong metallurgical background, with practical knowledge of characterisation techniques and an understanding of how manufacturing processes influence material performance. You will be hands-on in the laboratory and foundry, carrying out experiments and trials that may involve working with hot or molten metals.
You will play a key role in developing new alloys, improving existing products and processes, and supporting customer requirements. Creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving ability will be central to your success in this position.

- Lead and progress development projects from ideas through to proof of concept and scale-up
- Work collaboratively with technical and operational teams to implement new products and process improvements
- Provide technical support to the sales team, including responding to customer enquiries and attending technical discussions
- Liaise directly with customers to understand their requirements and translate these into product development goals
- Apply strong experimental and analytical skills to develop and test new magnesium alloys
- Prepare clear, detailed technical documentation and reports
- Maintain a keen interest in magnesium metallurgy and remain up to date with relevant scientific and industry developments
- Support continuous improvement activities across the R&D and Operations

Qualifications & Experience
- Degree-level qualification in a physical science (Chemistry, Materials Science, or Engineering)
- Experience of working in an industrial or manufacturing environment (metals industry experience desirable)
- Experience of managing or contributing to development projects
- Strong understanding of scientific methodology and experimental design
- Ability to plan, analyse, and interpret technical results
- Experience in writing clear, detailed technical documentation
- Creative, solutions-based mindset with strong problem-solving skills
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Confident in presenting technical information to varied audiences
